Child Safety Education

Important legislation has been introduced which, if passed, would go a long way toward protecting our nation’s children from sexual predators. The proposed The Child Safety Act of 2005 would increase criminal penalties against convicted child molestors as well as close loopholes in laws that allow predators to roam free. Let’s take a look at the pending legislation and how you can play an important part in seeing that it becomes law.

The internet can be a dangerous place, especially for children. There are a lot of sick people in this world that will try to lure and entice their child into doing something they should not be doing. It is important that parents know what websites their children are visiting and who, if anybody their child is talking on the internet.

Take a moment and think about it. When you consider the fact that, as adults, we would never consider leaving the house without our id. We spend thousands on home and car alarms, we are even protecting our family pets with microchips; however, our most cherished possessions, our children, leave home without any identification.

In the 15-year period from 1982 to 1996, the leading cause of death among young children was accidents, poisoning and violence (external causes) — these accounted for about 46% of all deaths among Australian children.

Although the death rate from external causes declined, it remained the leading cause of child death during this period. About a third of all child deaths from external causes were due to motor vehicle accidents (on average around 64 deaths per year) and drowning (on average 68 deaths per year).

What happens to a child basically depends on how the parents or guardians take care of him. The responsibility does not only start when the child is born, but should begin even while he is in the mother’s womb. Understanding child safety is crucial in the proper development of your child.
